1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 1/4 cups brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

4 large eggs

1 cup sour cream

1 tbsp vanilla extract

1 1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

1 cup mini chocolate chips


Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and line two 8-inch cake pans.

2. Cream together butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

3. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla and sour cream.

4. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined.

6. Divide batter evenly between pans and bake 28–30 minutes.

7. Let cakes cool completely on a wire rack.

8. Make cookie dough frosting: beat butter and brown sugar, add vanilla and heat-treated flour, fold in chocolate chips.

9. Layer cakes with frosting and decorate with more chips or cookie crumbles.

10. Chill before slicing for clean layers.

Notes

To heat-treat flour: bake at 350°F for 5 minutes or microwave for 1 minute, stirring every 15 seconds.

Store cake chilled in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
